Such a beautiful stanza - especially the line “be home in a new rhythm.” This first week of working out is all about a return to habit and practice. On some levels, changing habits is not solely a physical act but an invitation to a spiritual journey - exploring those facets of dailiness, beliefs, and habits that support a disciplined practice. In part I strive to awaken my spirit this week to the idea that I’m wholly committed to my whole person - not just my brain but the physical too and in so doing, my spirit is activated and nourished.
For a long time I’ve noticed that my mental and spiritual health are most directly related to my physical stamina and practices. So doing the treadmill is a spiritual practice in the way that I get to experience solitude, talk with God, reflectively consider the day. I encourage others to think about what practices they embrace that serve to awaken the spirit and then consider what would it look like to hold nothing back…
