This journey toward wellness is all about taking better care of myself. Elizabeth Lesser suggested that we need to “redefine what it means to be courageous, daring, and strong.” She posited that male and female conceptualizations of power are quite different. She said this:
Innervism, Lesser said, is “love of oneself. It is the realization that healing the self and healing the world go hand in hand." It is a way of remembering that sometimes the monsters dwell within.” She doesn’t sugar coat the challenges associated with innervism. This type of work isn’t holding hands and singing kumbayah but instead, soul work is hard. Yes, it’s important to be kind to ourselves but the type of work she’s talking about is deep and can be difficult.
I’ve only touched the surface of her ideas and want to learn more…..I’m intrigued by how she’s associating activism and innervism. More later….
