My husband loves to point out that his wife is the queen of BFI’s (big flippin ideas). I’m a romantic idealist who sees possibility and opportunity around every corner! Something hubster taught me long ago was to do my homework. So when I design a project or initiative, doing my homework entails exploring the many facets of a potential design. I think through each element or task individually and as contributive to the whole to visualize what it will take to bring an idea into fruition. Part of this visualization is doing if this then ? analysis to see how decisions along the way might affect the outcome or course of a design. Often, there are multiple ways to go about something, each with differing costs, logistics, and even outcomes. Simple feasibility research helps shape and add dimension to the alternatives. Having more information is helpful in crafting a final strategy.
So it was that on this day, we went to a place I found that carried big rocks that I was looking at for a landscaping project in our yard. For one thing I learned the term “landscape boulders” was a much better term than big rock. Ha Ha. The place we visited had some gorgeous rocks but whew - they were expensive, way more than the budget. At the same time, I looked at cactus prices and learned that my initial estimates were in line with what I had budgeted. An overall good day, although I was disappointed in the costs of the beautiful landscape boulders….it’s time to adjust. This is the importance of doing my homework - to learn and adjust!
